Almond Milk How-To

Great idea for fresh almond milk

Food Monkey

I only recently realized it is super easy to make your own almond milk (and much cheaper than buying). The reason I found out about this was that I bought myself a masticating juicer (the kind that grinds rather than shreds veggies) and one of the selling points was nut milk-making.

That said, it is really easy to do this in a blender too, the main difference is then you need to do the squeezing of the pulp by hand.

Here’s what the almonds look like post-soaking. (Mine are a mix of sliced and whole here, ’cause that’s what I had at the time.)

The finished product in all its glory: (The recipe makes more than 4 cups, but I used 1 cup for a matcha smoothie because I couldn’t resist.)

Inspiration

I think without these amazing blogs I am not sure how easy becoming Vegan would’ve been.

Isa Chandra  This is where I first found vegan recipes, ok so I started with Vegan Muffins and Cupcakes, but now went onto Sunflower Seed Mac -n-Cheese. Her blog, forum and cookbooks were a godsend.

Chocolate Covered Katie This one I visited almost daily… Anything chocolate is covered here and who doesn’t love chocolate. She is one of the sweetest bloggers I have seen out there.

The Sexy Vegan  Ok this one makes me laugh, his episodes on his recipes will make you laugh until you cry…

More to come

Hello world!

I became Vegan New Years 2011. I was vegetarian a year before that. I watched Food Inc. and was done with eating animals. I’ve been told that wasn’t the point of the movie, but that’s all it took. Watching Earthlings reaffirmed it.

I have been cooking and baking a lot more since becoming Vegan, and now search the internet for new recipes. From blogs, to Pinterest, to new recipes on Twitter, I’ve used them all.

I am a mom of 4 children which means I love a bargain. There are a lot of great sites for helping shoppers save a buck or two or twenty!

Customer Service… well isn’t that a great thing out there. I think this is what will be on this blog… There are those Great places that treat their customers with respect and those are the places I will definitely go back to. Then there is those stores that are not so great. I will not go near those stores and its hard for me, to return to them….

That’s it for now
